One knows the company Hugo Boss from the fashion sector. But it also produces other accessories. Just like stationery. One of them is the Essential Pinstripe and we want to take a closer look at this fountain pen.
Hugo Boss has long had more than just fashion in its assortment. The “Lifestyle” section also plays a role here. And also stationery. So there are several series of fountain pens and also writing cases. In the “Essential” series from Hugo Boss there are a few fountain pens, including the design Pinstripe. So pinstripe. A term that is more common in fashion than fabric patterns. And now here also in the area of fountain pens
The Hugo Boss Essential Pinstripe
The Hugo Boss Essential Pinstripe comes in the usual Hugo Boss box. This is a matte black outer carton in which the actual packaging is located. This is also kept in matt black. And is refined by a shiny and raised print of the Hugo Boss logo.
The opening flap is held closed by magnets.
Inside you will find the fountain pen, an ink cartridge and a certificate of authenticity with reference to the 2-year warranty.
The fountain pen is designed in a simple form. The cap and barrel are decorated in a pinstripe pattern. The decorative elements are chrome-plated in gunmetal color. These include the cap tip, a ring at the end of the cap and the beginning of the barrel, an extended piece of the end of the barrel and the clip. The “HUGO BOSS” lettering is embedded in the ring at the beginning of the shaft.
The cap is plugged in and fits relatively tight. The grip area is also chrome-plated in gunmetal color.
The nib is a steel nib with a width of M. It is simply decorated and has a small Hugo Boss stroke.
The Hugo Boss Essential Pinstripe is made of metal.
The pinstripe in use
Although the fountain pen is one of the slimmer models, it fits the hand well. This is certainly also due to the fact that the fountain pen gets a little wider towards the grip and thus is not quite as thin to hold. The length is pleasant. Also the weight distribution is fine. Both with the cap on and without. It is a bit heavier due to the metal body, but in my opinion it is quite comfortable. So nothing stands in the way of writing.
The nib glides pleasantly soft over the paper. It is a stainless steel nib, but it is of good quality. It even has a bit of flex. Although this is not as easy to produce as with some other pens, it is usable. And not necessarily expected.
My opinion about the Hugo Boss Essential Pinstripe
If you want to find something negative about this fountain pen, it's probably the nib. Not the nib. It surprised me positively. It writes pleasantly. And the flex was not expected. That is very nice.
It would be the lack of choice about the nib widths. Because as I wrote above, this fountain pen is only available with this nib. And this corresponds to an M nib.
This is the most common nib width, so this is not so bad. But a little choice would also appeal to fans of F and B nibs.
All in all, the fountain pen is good. The nib itself is good. The workmanship gives no reason for criticism.
The design is of course always a matter of taste. The Essential Pinstripe is rather simple in form, but pleasant. The decorative elements give the writing instrument a loosening of the rather simple form.
The pinstripe pattern is elegant. Just like a pinstripe suit is sometimes said to be.
So if you are looking for a not quite light-weight fountain pen with an M nib, you might also take a closer look at the Hugo Boss Essential Pinstripe. It has earned it. I like it very much.
